Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?I just watched part of The Dancing Pirate in which Rita Hayworth dances. It's on VHS and of rather poor quality so I will finish the rest at some other time.(It was filmed in 1936) It's difficult to find on DVD in the video stores. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?Funny you should ask. Yesterday morning I watched "Young at Heart" for the first time. Filmed in 1955 with Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Gig Young and of all folks, Alan Hale Jr, (Skipper from Gilligian's Island) It was an adaptation of "The Four Daughters", even though there is only 3 in this one. The wardrobes had me, the hair had me the sets had me and Doris Day running from Gig Young to the brooding Frank had me cursing such a stupid girl. I ended up being almost an hour late for work but it was worth it. The soundtrack is great, good songs from both Sinatra and Day, Frank playing for tips at the bar does a great version of "Someone to Watch Over Me" and seeing Day in those little hot pants at the beach actually had me whistle under my breath. While the film itself isn't going to make anyones top 10 list it was good and while it follows a typical formula, including a kinda weak ending, its worth the watch. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?Luther it was about Martin Luther and what led up to the Reformation. I was the only one in the theater, I didn't even know anything about this movie before I went, but you know, it wasn't half bad. Joseph Fiennes played the lead, very believably, and Peter Ustinov was in it. Really, Ustinov stole the show, and was the only thing Retro about it. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch? THE HOURS with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore. Not my kind of movie, but I watched it because the scenes with Julianne Moore were filmed in my hometown of Hollywood, Florida. Today, I drove by the house where Julianne drops her son off in the film. Funny that my Hollywood doubles for L.A. circa 1951. Nice to know I live in a retro town...

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch? Just saw ELF, the new Will Farrell movie. Lots of fun, with a wink and a nod to the old Rudolph and Frosty tv specials. The opening credits and music score were a delight. Recommended. Innocent fun during these cynical times.

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?Last Call, with Jeremy Irons and Neve Campbell. About the last days of F.Scott Fitzgerald and how The Last Tycoon came to be written (sort of). Good flick, never even heard of it before. I just chanced across it flippin' through cable. I recommend it. I didn't realize what a hell-raiser Fitzgerald was. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?I got all dressed up to go see "The Singing Detective" in a fancy old theater Saturday night. I thought it looked kind of film-noir-ish, so I gave it a shot. I was thoroughly disappointed. It's definitely up there on my "weirdest movie ever" list :? |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch? At a film club screening this weekend, I saw the not-yet-released "Girl With A Pearl Earring". A *really* retro story, set in 1665!

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?
Sigh. I loved MST3K. I recently watched "Lord Love a Duck" for the first time, which was notable for me because it was the first time I've ever enjoyed Tuesday Weld in anything. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?Yeah, I just saw it yesterday. Good film, but for me it didn't quite live up to its hype. Nice performances by Murray and Johanssan, but a little unfocused and maybe ten minutes too long. Definitely different, though... |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch? You mean, will Bob and Charlotte hook up back in the US? No, I don't see that happening - they're both married... Maybe they'll stay in touch, and maybe if they ultimately both end up divorcing (not at all an unlikely scenario!), they'll pursue each other. But Sofia Coppola's not interested in that: the film is about their unique relationship just while they're in Japan... |
