Listen to Old Time Radio Programs in MP3

Maybe you know about this, or maybe not, but www.live365.com has about 50 streaming audio Old Time Radio Broadcasts. Membership is free, and tonight I've been listening to the stations "WWII Radio" and "Ultimate Sci Fi". I thought I could stop after Fibber McGee and Molly. Then I thought I could stop after the vintage public service announcement (masquerading as a half hour show) asking all able bodied women to join the WAC and do their part. Then I thought I could stop after listening to Glenn Miller's Air Force Band playing requests from servicemen. Now that I'm halfway through Tom Corbet, Space Cadet, (original Kellogg's "PEP" advertisements and premiums included) I thought maybe you'd like to know about it too.

They've got Sci-fi shows, War shows, Comedies, everything. Just load it up and let it go. The easiest thing to do is to go to www.live365.com and type OTR in the search box.

I hope you enjoy it!

Gotta go now...X Minus One is up next!

Re: Listen to Old Time Radio Programs in MP3

First, let me say that I am glad to see you back on the boards, Kitten. I for one have missed you. Living in LA I am sure that you are familiar with the "Drama Hour" on KNX radio. Every night at 9yikes0, I and my wife tune in for a flight of fancy. Last night it was the ever popular Jack Benny (Guests, Fred Allen and and Martha Tilton). We are entertained by "Johnny Dollar", "Have gun, will travel", "The Whistler", "Suspense", and so many more. Anyone that can receive these broadcasts and are fans of old-time radio will truly be entertained. I'm going to check out the link you mentioned...now.

Re: Listen to Old Time Radio Programs in MP3

Thanks, Three Piece!  I used to listen to the KNX radio programs when I was a kid - wasn't it called Theatre of the Mind or something? -  but I didn't know they were playing them again (or it it, "still"?).  Thanks!

Re: Listen to Old Time Radio Programs in MP3

Kitten, I can't thank you enough for turning me on to Live365. I am listening to some Glenn Miller as I write this. OOPS! Just changed to a version of (excuse the spelling) Marzi-dotes and Dozi-dotes. Never could spell that title. Anyway, I'm having a great time doing things while listening to some great old tunes! BTW, what I am listening to is Yankeroo from Australia! NEAT!! 8)

Yankeroo?  I'll add it to my list right away.  What search did you use to find it?

Since I posted last night, I ran searches on Victrola music and 20s tunes too, and now I've got a bunch of those stations too.  I got to hear Jimmy Durante singing Inka Dinka Doo this morning!

I think I'm going to load this up when I'm opening Christmas presents this year.  How Rockwell it would be!

Re: Listen to Old Time Radio Programs in MP3

There is a menu that is on the screen that allows you to pick what kind of entertainment you want. For instance "Oldies", "Jazz", etc. I think I clicked on Jazz and up came Yankeroo, a name that designates the linage of the guy who manages the site. He is from Lima, Ohio, married an Aussie, and now lives in Australia. He even has a web-cam showing the kangeroos in his back yard! I wrote to tell him how much I enjoyed his site, and I got a e-mail from him today thanking me for the praise and telling me about some up-coming shows: All instrumental, Boogie-woogie, etc. It's definitely worth a look. Thanks again Kitten. I owe you one.

Oooooh!  Looks good!  Now that you mention it, I *do* need to find a few Life of Riley's with Scotty Beckett as Junior.  Can't just wait around for those to be played, right?  Maybe these guys have it.

Thanks for the link!

I adore Radio Spirits. In fact, I brought several of their collections along on my Thanksgiving trip to PA. We listened to some of them Thanksgiving Day!

And it's an excellent set! Did anybody know that Cary Grant did a radio version of "The Awful Truth"? And with Claudette Colbert??
I didn't!!

Ya gotta love a woman who travels with screwball comedy.

Re: Listen to Old Time Radio Programs in MP3

I believe that I mentioned this in a previous thread, but a few years ago I purchased two boxed collections from Radio Spirits that have brought me many hours of enjoyment. One is called "Radio's Missing Masters". It is a set of unique shows. Sixty selections of audition or premier episodes of popular series. Some are the only existing shows from rare series. I have to admit that there are some shows that I had never heard of, but that is even better. A lot of them are starring big names from the world of radio and the cinema. The second,  (also sixty selections)"Old Time Radio's Greatest Shows", are just that: Programs that we all listened to and loved back in the 40's and 50's. Well, some of us anyway.

Re: Listen to Old Time Radio Programs in MP3

                     Hello everyone,

If you are interested in OTR in Mp3 format you should take a look at www.rusc.com.  They have a free area, but in their member's section they have every show imaginable.  I think the membership is $7.00 per month but they add 5 or 6 new shows every single day.  The latest thing that I saw there was a Washington DC radio station's complete broadcast day from 1939.  From sign on to sign off.  There are also actual news broadcasts from throughout WWII.   So far I think I have filled up 8 complete cds worth (200 shows each) and still have more to go.
