justswing Posts: 0	Help young swing dancers! Hello everyone. I have a problem, and I'm not exactly sure how to solve it. I'm a High School student in Portland, OR, and am very interested in swing dancing. I love almost every type of music from early 20s to late 50s, and I love swing! Yes, get to the point - my dilemma is that there seem to be no swing dancing classes for young people. Now, I wouldn't mind taking an adult class and bringing along friends to level the age gap a bit (just so it isn't as uncomfortable), but all of the guys I know are either very rude or simply not interested in swing. Does anyone know of any opportunities to learn, or know of any alternatives? I'm not sure whether this problem can be solved, especially online, but I'm desperate (you can probably guess by my screen name). Looking at books on how to swing and watching videos of dancers doesn't really work. Thanks so much!

GirlieGirl Posts: 9	Re: Help young swing dancers! There's quite a healthy scene in Portland, but unfortunately there aren't many social dance opportunities for under age dancers. (The average age of the dancers I know from PDX is late 20s/early30s.) If you're looking for a place to dance or take lessons, I'd suggest going to Nocturnal. It's run by dancers, for dancers. The people there are really nice and friendly. Check them out at http://www.nocturnalpdx.com/ There's also an online forum of swing dancers in Portland.
