Singing the praises of dance shoes!!!

i always love getting new shoes, but i just have to say that these capezio character shoes i bought a couple of weeks ago are the best  i've bought in a long time... I just feel so much better dancing in them! I can't wait to try doing swing in them sometime... i've only been breaking them in in my salsa classes, but damn... they are just awesome..
ok i'm done now.. hee hee...
What are your favorite dance shoes and why? smile

Re: Singing the praises of dance shoes!!!

For me, it's my brown-and-white saddle shoes.  Because they're saddle shoes.

Favorite non-saddle shoes?  My Doc Martens...the ones with all the bits of dried cement and the gaping holes.  They're just right.

Promise ya won't ever kick me with those when we're dancing, huh, Dante? 8O not that i imagine you would ever do such a thing, still....

lol

I have so many I can't even tell you which are my favorites. But I do have a soft spot for my red & white saddle shoes...

Saddle shoes rock! Don't EVER talk to me if you're wearing Blyers or ANY dance shoe!

Re: Singing the praises of dance shoes!!!

Only pair of shoes I've got right now that are decent for dancing are my specs.

I still want those brown reverse saddles from Muffy's!  Too bad they don't have a leather sole, but some moleskin can solve that.  I've used moleskin on my brown oxfords when I'm in uniform...works decently enough.

I'm still a bit confuzzled on the anti-Blyer sentiment.  The redhead doesn't like them, either, and won't dance with people wearing them.  I can understand why, to some extent, but if the person's nice enough, why shut them out because of their lemminglike choice of footwear?

Wingnut..in my mind they've become to represent a stand-offish "look at me I took dance classes" attitude that I frankly, cannot jive with. They are the "look at me I know how to dance" shoe. Noting is worse than calliing that kinda dork attitude to ones self. Sorry, my 2 cents.

That's funny because I remember being at a dance and someone said exactly the same thing but about saddle shoes (or rather co-respondant shoes we Brits call 'em).

Darling Asher, you know I love you, but sugar, I wear 'em too. And you KNOW I'm not like that.

(If you ever see me in Mod Robes, take me out and let me have it...!)

Wingnut, Bleyer does have some butt-ugly shoes. Fact. But there are a few good-looking models, especially the newer ones in the men's line. Check out the New Yorker or the Balboa (the Balboa really doesn't look "like a Bleyer").

Re: Singing the praises of dance shoes!!!

                     Those Character shows *do* rock.
As far as the Bleyer debate goes, Get over it!
People are going to have an elitist attitude regardless of the shoes they wear.
Perhaps if people spent less time staring at the floor, and spent more time dancing and having a good time, the shoes worn by others would be a non-issue.
I own/wear out Capezios, Bleyers, original 50's Saddles, some clunky things from early 90's Payless, NineWest slingbacks etc etc...
and I don't think that the nights I strap on my swivels that I am a snot to be avoided...

Re: Singing the praises of dance shoes!!!

I have a pair of Charlestons.  I chose this style, as I already have a few pairs of boring black dress shoes in my closet.  So why would I want to buy more of the same?

http://www.dancestore.com/1charleston.html

What *bugs* me about these shoes is that I am having a very hard time keeping the resin soles slick.   :x   Ever since the bottoms started to stick to the floor, I cannot get the slickness back.  Washing them with soap and water doesn't help, and rubbing baby powder on them only keeps them slick for about twenty minutes of dancing.  These shoes are only a couple of months old.

Moleskin?  What is moleskin.  Would it work?

Honestlly,  I love the Bleyers look,  but the soles are crap.  My suggestion would be to avoid the white soles at all costs.  :x

I have to sing the praises of Celebrity dance shoes - handmade in USA.  I have a pair of gold t-straps (with rhinestone strap) flat and perfect for dancing sold by Toe to Toe Dance Shoes out of the great state of Michigan.  Best shoes I've ever danced in.

Funny you should mention that--Saturday night, a group of us went to a new spot for dancing--and it was a ballroom crowd. Awful clothes, dance shoes, and all moving around the floor as stiffly as wedding cake toppers. All were executing by-the-book ballroom steps, and were going about it with the grim determination that squelched any and all semblance of enjoyment. They were basically the dungeons-and-dragons nerds of the dance world. If it ain't fun, and you're not getting paid, why do it??

Re: Singing the praises of dance shoes!!!

I was doing ballroom for the first 6-7 months that i was here at school, and i know exactly what you're talking about.. they're a catty bunch, but the most amusing thing is that most of them don't really like to dance or have gotten beyond intermediate moves/technique, just having the positions of club officers is what i think keeps them going. They don't even do that right... Thank the powers that be, that the Swing club is slowly but surely gaining momentum again and that salsa is also going strong..

Where?  Besides the ballroom geeks, was it any good?

Re: Singing the praises of dance shoes!!!

Nah. It was a place in Hershey in the back of a shopping center. Essentially a dance studio with a mirror ball and a DJ.  We left after about an hour.
