Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch? I had to avert my gaze during the "surgury" at the beginning of the film, but other than that it didn't really bother me too much.

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?Just the one at the beginning? I guess I am to empathetic, but the third surgery, with the doctor and the shot meant for the albatross, whoa....big WHOA!! I kept thinking of how I would manage if it were me, with retractors and piece of cloth and all. I almost broke out in a cold sweat. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch? That really didn't bother me. What bothered me was the amputation were you could hear the sawing and the thud of the limb drop. I can look at just about anything, but it's the sounds that make me really uncomfortable. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?I just saw Master and Commander today. I didn't think any of the surgery scenes were that graphic, and definitely necessary for either the plot or to establish the time period. Otherwise I thought it was pretty accurate (from what I understand) and overall a really good film. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?Wayne, I just saw that with my Dad, and we both almost died laughing! Meanest, nastiest, thing I've ever seen. Dad almost spat his dentures out a couple of times, and I almost choked on popcorn. Foul, blasphemous, and hilarious. Raunchy, sick, cynical--and the movie W. C. Fields would have made if he could have gotten away with it. Yow. Ouch. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?I have been meaning to see that movie. Do you know if it is in a wider release than the art house and Ritz-esque theaters? Everytime I have looked for it when it first came out, it was only playing in the fancy theaters. |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch? Latest I've heard, there's still no plan for a film of The Hobbit. Peter Jackson's next project is a remake of King Kong - set in the thirties, where it belongs! (Now the 1933 Kong is one of my favorite films, but if *anyone* can come up with a remake that will be worthwhile, it's gotta be Jackson.)

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?
Yes, I have both dvds of the two films and the extended versions of the movies really improves the whole experience. And being a big film score buff, I have the soundtracks, too. Although I won't open Return of the King until after I've seen the movie. Marlowe |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?
I too have seen it and loved it. I agree...it does explain things more. Also the special features. But we do not own it yet. We are waiting for Christmas:) I do not imagine they will do the hobbit. Technically it is not a part of the trilogy, just a set up story. But it is a cute story and you can always watch the cartoon:) |

Re: What Movie Did You Just Watch?I just saw Master and Commander. What a disappointment. Don't get me wrong the special effects were superb, but where was the plot? You cannot extend a chase scene through a two hour movie! Worse of all I am a big Patrick O'Brian fan, and the book, which does have a plot, has been completely ignored. For instance Jack Aubrey is a Lieutenant who has bee given command of a 14 gun sloop, not a post captain as porteayed in the film, it is his first command, so whilst he is brave he is not always competent. But the worst liberty is that in the book the entire story is based in the Mediterrenean Sea in the shipping lanes around the Balearics, this of course is historically more accurate than some strange chasing mission near Brazil. Although I suppose they wanted that sailing ship film cliche of rounding the cape. Sorry this has turned into a bit of a rant, the film is not completely awful, but it is deeply disappointing. |
