The Best Television Characters

Most of the classic television comedies, I grew up watching dubbed with Greek dialogue, so I think you lose something when watching a show this way, but what are in your opinion the very best television characters? I might add, english speaking, American, etc..

1. Homer Simpson
2. Archie Bunker
3. Hawkeye Pierce
4. Niles Crane
5. Julia Sugarbaker
6. The Nightstalker man (I can't recall his name or character name)
7. Carol Burnett (but she was a lot of different characters)
8. Richie Cunningham
9. Mr. Magoo
10. Charlie Brown

Re: The Best Television Characters

The Nightstalker guy's name was Darrin McGavin.

The most influential characters as far as our daily lives go, because they invented a whole lexicon of shorthand phrases...

1. Detective Joe Friday..."Just the facts, ma'am."
2. John Boy Walton...Goodnight John Boy!"
3. The Soup Nazi...."No soup for you!!"
4. Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli..."Ay!!"
5. Arnold Drummond..."Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis!?"
6. J.J...."Dyn-o-MITE!"
7. Desi Arnaz..."Ju got some 'splainin' t' do, Lucy!"
8. Barney Fife..."Nip it! Nip it in the bud!"
9. James T. Kirk..."Beam me up, Scotty!"
10. Spock..."That is totally illogical."

And one honorable mention,

11. Not a show character but a character none-the-less, the old lady in the Wendy's commercial... "Where's the beef."

Re: The Best Television Characters

I think it's too hard to name one person from one television show so I will name the whole cast of:

Seinfeld
Sex in the City
The Simpsons
South Park
X-Files
That 70's Show (I can't believe there isn't a thread about that show!)

Re: The Best Television Characters

Has anyone seen the new show on CBS titled "How I Met Your Mother"? Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser all grown up) plays a hysterical character named Barney who leaves me in stitches every Monday!

"Suit up"
