Re: I MADE it....

I didn't make it, but my sister did.....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/suchagirliegirl/armadillocake.jpg

It's red velvet inside.

(Lesson learned? Never joke with a pastry chef that your groom needs a red velvet armadillo groom's cake. You'll end up with one at your bridal shower.....)

(They served me the head, so I gave it a lobotomy. Took the butt home to him. )

Re: I MADE it....

That is genius. Sick, but genius!! What did she use for the hide/armor?

Re: I MADE it....

I believe that it's rolled fondant that she cut into the scales. Then she used her air gun and spray painted it with edible paint. She did some sort of marshmallowy frosting under it so you could peel back the armor and still enjoy the cake.

Yes, she's good at what she does. She's making the wedding cake, too. (Vanilla cake, raspberry filling, lemon buttercream, decorated with leftover roses from my bouquet.)

Re: I MADE it....

Yeah, we do have some talent amongst us.

Did I tell you that Mom is teaching herself how to crochet left handed so she can crochet lace around a handkerchief for me to use on my wedding day? That woman is amazing!! (Her right arm is too weak from the stroke to be able to do it "normally", but she's not letting that stop her.)

That's amazing and scary at the same time.

Re: I MADE it....

As I was cleaning out closets and packing stuff for Saturday's move, I stumbled across this little ditty. Probably one of the nicest dresses I've made.

i made this totally awesome cape...

blue with red velvet letters and silver lining on the underside...
its the second one i made... i lost the first in a move, and when i did the second i added the silver lining, no pun intended...
it was most likely due to my watching bubba hotep earlier that week...

the picture is also my bands album cover... except they changed the red letters to green using technology...

and i guess this counts too...

http://myspace-769.vo.llnwd.net/00230/96/73/230303769_l.jpg

when i got it the frettboard had been shaved off (don't even ask, i don't know why, people are morons) the tuning pegs and warn the holes so that they shook and the nut was long gone, prolly since the above mentioned moron shaved off the fretboard...
the fret board was made with a yard stick that was cracked in half, then glued together and cut to fit... and somehow sanded (both the neck and the stick) and balanced the first time i put it place and glued it down... i got super lucky...
the holes for the tuning pegs were a mixture of wood putty, wood glued in place and then sanded down... ii never got a chance to stain it, as you can obviously see... i had to find one new tunning peg as it wasn't included...and the fifth string tuning peg was made from a the round part of a wooden suit hanger (which just happened to be the same size) with another piece of wood shaped and glued on top...
the nut was some hard nylon toplift i had in my shoe repair shop...
and the star inlay on the top was cut from two mother of pearl buttons then glued and sanded in place...
i put nylon string on it and kept it fretless, the long answer is cause i allways wanted a fretless banjo and this was an oprotunity to do so, but the short answer was this was easier than trying to find a fretboard that was the right size and shape... it turned out really well and i was really really happy with it...
but then durring the move in which i lost my first above mentioned cape... it was really cold out and the temprature change from my previous location and my new one cause the head to rip from one side of the tone ring to the other... it was the original 90 year old head too... pretty bumbed about it...
still havn't gotten a new one, but i need to redo the holes for the tuning pegs anyways...

p.s. the cat and the hat are not mine, but i feel fine, and have plenty of time to wine and dine with lime and ryme...

Re: I MADE it....

I have a half-made dulcimer kit somewhere in my parents' basement- it must be 15 years old by now- doubt if I'll ever get to it. But I just don't have the patience to sit down and learn stringed intruments anyway- brass instruments are more my ballgame.

I made this by hand. It took hours. I had a pattern for a cirlce skirt and the top of the dress I just improvised. I have on of those tiny sewing machines so I will be making more doll clothes in the future.
