ORCHESTRA WIVES on DVD!

Sure Orchestra Wives, hitting DVD shelves today, is a bit of a fluff film for Fox to include in their Studio Classics line, but it's great fluff. You've got the eternally cute Ann Rutherford. You've got Glenn Miller and his Orchestra pounding out some of their classics (With Jackie Gleason playing the bass player!). There's the fabulous Nicholas Brothers, the best tap dance team EVER! Fayard and Sheridan provide audio commentary.

Best Buy will probably have this for 10 bucks, like they do the rest of the Fox Studio Classics line, so that's good value!

Re: ORCHESTRA WIVES on DVD!

Did you ever buy it? I saw it about a month ago on Netflix and snapped it up. The best part was Ann Rutherford's commentary. She spoke happily of her adventures as a teenager in Hollywood, taking the Pacific Electric red car down 7th to Downtown Los Angeles every day, and stopping by the old KFAC radio building on the way home and ogling whatever new Auburn coupe or roadster they had parked outside. After her cute little story about how she took the money from this film and bought a car, only to drive it home and realize there was no parking anywhere in Hollywood, I just had to go down to see where it had been. Ha! It's the only building they ever tore down on that street! Everything else there looks like it was built pre-1930.

Fayard Nicholas was kind of a boor. He kept repeating the same story, with minor variations, about how everyone wanted to see his brother running up a wall in their dance routine. He kept harping on it, and when the moment finally came, it was truly underwhelming.
