Dancing in NYC...Last Night! Balboa Anyone?

Last night I went out dancing in NYC at a swing party co-sponsored by my swing dance studio Hop, Swing & a Jump and had no clue whatsoever that it was all part of the first ever Balboa weekend in the city! I was not prepared in the slightest for all the costumed dancers and all the experts who appeared to dance NOTHING BUT balboa all night! I expected to show up and do my 6 and 8 count Lindy, and thank God I took the hour long beginner balboa workshop right before the event started or else I would've spent the night watching rather than dancing!

The Boilermaker Jazz Band was AWESOME and their tempos were some of the fastest I've heard from a live band in a long time! Luckily, I picked up the basics of balboa fairly quickly and could dance them quite well with anyone I asked. The music was just way too fast (most of the time) for any form of the Lindy that I knew how to do.

Anywho, what started out as a so-so night soon turned into a fun-filled evening that sparked my interest in learning more about balboa. This is definitely a swing style I'd be willing persue. big_smile
Peace,
Pete

Never been a huge fan of balboa. To my eyes it looks like two people who've been involuntarily stuck together, desperately trying to pull themselves apart!
