PHBC-I, The Jury

Hi all,

Thought I would kick off the thread to give us a good starting point.

-----------------------------

------------------------------------------------

Man, whatta rush!  Check out this line:

"I hate hard, Pat.  When I latch on to the one behind this they're going to wish they hadn't started it.  Some day, before long, I'm going to have my rod in my mitt and the killer in front of me....."

Short, sweet and to the point!

I love the introduction and Chapter 2 when we meet Vera...for some reason, I couldn't shake the somewhat parallels between their interaction and Della Street, Perry Mason's moll.....

Re: PHBC-I, The Jury

ciao!
so far i've read chapter 1 & 2....wow! even if filtered by the italian translation, Spillane's style is great! dry and straight to the point, that's right....
At first i couldn't stand Hammer's attitude that much, i mean he looks a bit cold even when he promise revenge! however, turning page after page, i've thought that maybe facts of (his) life have made him so but perhaps there are things that still can shake him (and i hope they'll show up sooner or later in this story!)...so, i'm starting to like him somehow!
Vera rules! or maybe i should write Velda rules! 'cause, yes, in the italian version her name is Velda....!?!

ALOHA!

p.s.: please, pardon me if my comments show some baaaad use of the english language!

Hiya Rosetta Swing, folks,

RS, you're right on there....Hammer can be sometimes short and sweet, almost too much, but I'm guessing his character was probably affected (effected?) by the war...at least that's the impression I got....

Vera is the girl!  One cool operator!

Don't worry about you're english, it's better than mine!!!! smile

Still waiting on mine.  The online card catalogue says it's "in transit."  It's said that for a couple days now.
