50's Queen Size Bed?Ok I was toying with the idea of redoing my bedroom. I would love to have an older bedroom set. I was thinking maybe the blonde that was so popular for so long but with just some tenative searching on Ebay I saw no queen size head boards listed at all. Did they even have the queen size option? Does anyone know about this? Or any innovative ways you have gotten around the lack of a larger head boad? Please let me know your ideas! |

Re: 50's Queen Size Bed?I was talking with a vintage dealer the other day, as I am looking to round out my 1940s waterfall bedroom set with a headboard and vanity. We were discussing bed sizes, and i think he told me that the queen size bed wasn't an option until the 1960s. Since I have a queen size mattress, he told me to pick up two twin frames and push them together to make one. |

Re: 50's Queen Size Bed?It's true, the double was the standard size until the 60's, but you can buy converters for double sized frames in order to use them with larger modern mattresses. |

Re: 50's Queen Size Bed?I was wondering the same thing! There's NO way that my husband and I can fit on a double bed. He's way over 6ft. tall and doubles just don't work. We were really wanting a deco style bedroom but couldn't see a way around the double bed dilemma. Will definitely check out the converter! Thanks!!! |
