Signature Scents

As the age of 30 is now a year away, I have decided to finally come up with a signature scent. Something that people will associate with me. What are some very good perfumes, or oils that are not too dear in price?

Re: Signature Scents

Get a hold of "The Bombshell Manual of Style". It has a whole chapter on perfume and gives the history and descriptions of several classic perfumes and some I've never heard of before. That's how I found several that I love! Good perfume is worth the money and usually a little goes a long way!

Thank you Rose. There is actually a website that is so cute. You can take the "Are You a Bombshell" quiz!

Re: Signature Scents

I got the book, and it wasn't all that helpful to me. Guess I'm not the "bombshell" type.

My signature scent? Olay body wash for work, or Jessica McClintock for going out. JMC is a light scent of lily of the valley, a bit of rose. It's fresh and clean..... and I've never met another woman that wears it.

I've never heard of that. Lovely name! And let's face it, the bottle design is important. It has to look great on a vanity! No one designs lovely looking perfume bottles anymore. It is truly a lost art.

Re: Signature Scents

I need a signature scent also. I think I will just have to go to the perfume counter and try a few out. I have no idea where to start. Cartier has a scent that smells heavenly but it's not an everyday scent.

Re: Signature Scents

I love the smell of gardenias and have worn Gardenia by Chanel for the last 2 years, but I hate to travel with it.So for my last trip I picked up White Gardenia by Sonia Kashuk at Target for 1/3 of the price.

Re: Signature Scents

Stella McCartney's signature fragrance is really nice. Roses, more than anything, but it's light. It has a kind of old-fashioned feel about it.

Is this very similar to Chanel Gardenia? I love Chanel's version, but it is only available every so often. It's currently sold out

Another lovely vintage gardenia fragrance is Fracas.

Re: Signature Scents

Any scent advice for us boys? I've wanted to try something that isn't Old Spice.
(I recall another thread on the subject, but at the time being I'm a bit too lazy to search)

Re: Signature Scents

it's dorky, but I LOVE the Pinaud ClubMan line.
A lot of barbers use it, and you can get it in the Walgreen's here...

It's old, no doubt about it, and the aftershave has such a clean smell. Good stuff. Look for it.

Re: Signature Scents

I found a great scent but it is from Victoria Serect which I loathe, but gosh, it smells so wonderful. It's called Heavenly and it has a very crisp clean laundry on the line sort of smell. So light and sweet. It almost made me forget what a horrid, awful store I was purchasing it from!

Perhaps you can put it in a pretty atomizer so you wont be reminded of were it came from.
I love the bottles for the L'Occitane scents. I may ask santa for a few of those.

Re: Signature Scents

I have a signature scent, but it's something I've been making for years. I use an almond oil base and add essential oils: rose, vanilla, cherry and a touch of cinnamon. I always get compliments and people asking where they can get it.

Re: Signature Scents

It's super easy, I just mix it in a glass bottle that has a dropper. You just sniff it as it goes, remembering that the scents will blend a little more over time, and when it's ready, you can transfer some via dropper into one of those glass tubes that has a little roller on the end so you can cap that and keep it in your purse.

I get the glass bottles at health food stores or places that sell a lot of floofy oils and candles, and the roller tube is just something that used to have perfume in it that was used up. Washed it out good, and it's perfect for the oils.

You can have so many scents to work with. Essential oils can be pricey or not depending on where you go, and some more than others but places like health food stores usually carry them.

And as for the base, I like the subtle scent that almond oil already carries. Other than that, I like using grapeseed oil or jojoba oil, which is technically a wax and might be called jojoba wax.

The blend I make tends to smell like candy, but I can make it a little more sophisticated by adding more rose, less vanilla and a little more cinnamon.

For practice, you can dab the oil with swabs onto paper and see how the scents mix before pouring them into a base.

I've just been wearing Shalimar, again after a long time.
It's a good old one, and nice and warm for Winter.

Try Drakkar Noir. Classic goombah scent. My sister gave me a bottle as a gift when I was 18 and I've used it ever since. You ALWAYS get compliments on it.

Re: Signature Scents

It's Chanel No. 5 for me, or sometimes Evening in Paris (but I don't like the new bottles). I pick up vintage bottles when I find them. The new stuff is too powdery for me.

I really want to try Nuit de Noel, and also like violet scented toilet water.

Many perfumes are too heavy on me (in fact, for Chanel I prefer the eau de toilette).

My signatures are Chanel Coco at night and Coco Mademoiselle for the day/office. I've been wearing Coco for over 13 years.

I've got the Bombshell Manual of Style. I love that book and it's so me to a T!!!

Re: Signature Scents

I just picked up a box of Coty loose powder today and it occurred to me that that was a very popular scent for ladies of the 40s. (I noticed that they have fragrance-free powder also, presumably for those not wishing to smell like an old lady. ) There weren't a whole lot of boxes on the shelf- I wonder if it is being discontinued?
