Vintage Wedding

I'm planning my wedding in a 1930s style (although if my budget gets any smaller I may have to go '40s and have a much less formal affair!) and am hoping some you can help me to source images, info and patterns on outfits for:

Bridal gown - slinky, charmeuse, "Gosford Park", evening style glamour pattern

Maids - hats and headdresses (to go with e.g. Vintage Vogue pattern V2610)

Flower Girl - dress

I'm hoping to be married in the Autumn next year, so anything seasonal for attire would be much appreciated!

Also, anyone any idea why Vogue has suddenly discontinued many of their Vintage patterns...?

Many thanks in advance!

Kitty

Re: Vintage Wedding

Kitty,

Get a copy of "Your Vintage Wedding" (Amazon always has some used copies) and look for patterns not from Vogue, but from Simplicity. Try to hunt them down under my wife's name Theresa LaQuey--she still has quite a few in their catalogue. She has been making vintage-style wedding gowns and bridal party clothing for almost 25 years, and for her last wedding (no, not to me, the guy before that), she did a complete set of the bridal dresses from "Swing Time." If you're within a couple of hundred miles of San Francisco, consider having her design something for you from scratch. She has over 5,000 patterns to work from and despite my endless entreaties, she continues to underprice her work!

Re: Vintage Wedding

Hi Joe,

It's so nice to see you still around here!

I've always wanted to have Theresa something for me ever since I read about her in the Vintage Weddings book, but when I do a search on the Internet, I can't come up with any contact information.

Can you give me a way to get in touch with her? I would love to have something made for the Gatsby this and eventually a wedding-type dress for an anniversary party next year.

Thanks so much. You should hang out at The Fedora Lounge, it has some of the flavor of the old Port Halcyon.

Hello Joe,
Thank you for your reply. I shall look out for the book and some patterns. How I wish I could make patterns!

Sadly as I'm in the UK, I shan't be able to look up Theresa, but her work looks great! I have found a patternof hers and have ordered it from Grandma's House. Fingers crossed - it should be great!

Many thanks again.

Kitty
