Roll Call Before We Play Taps! I'm an itinerant entrepreneur for the moment, but I can't abide PH going out in a puff of second-hand smoke. Yeah, I know TMBC promised that 2007 would be a turnaround year for the old town, but seriously, at this juncture I reckon some well-deserved encouragement for him and Smilin' Buddha Joe is in order. They have fought the fine fight, they're sticking to it when just about every other retro site on the web older than 6 years has completely folded its hands around the lilly and gone to dust.

Re: Roll Call Before We Play Taps! I'm enjoying it. As long as I'm still single, which has no end in sight anyways, I might as well do something fun with it. I had to take a break from cutting copper with a pair of straight snips. I've only got like 20 cuts left to do for my interior basket and tomorrow I get to do all the soldering (with silver solder, we're keeping it nice and pretty, she'll shine just like a new penny!)

Re: Roll Call Before We Play Taps! Well, let's see.... in the last year and a half I've changed jobs and gotten married. Work keeps me busy, and when not working, I'm caring for the hubby who was diagnosed with a form of epilepsy a couple months ago.

Re: Roll Call Before We Play Taps! Well, lots of changes for me this year! I am still living in Phoenix and working as an editor/writer, along with doing vintage-style modeling on the side.

Re: Roll Call Before We Play Taps! I still pop in here, to see if there's anything new happening. It's sad to pop in here, and see that nothing has happened for a month, or better, and still sadder that PH was created as a replacement for the old Atomic magazine forums, after the demise of that publication. I still embrace my modern electronics, while at the same time embracing retro culture and retro living. Sure I have a couple of rockabilly forums, and surf guitar forums available, but (and especially with rockabilly) both forms of retro tend to offer only a stereotype of the mid-50s (rockabilly) and early to mid-60s (surf guitar).

Re: Roll Call Before We Play Taps!Even though I've only made a handful of annual visits in the past 3 years, I will be very sad to see Port Halcyon fall to the digital wrecking ball. A lot has changed since I joined in 2001. At that point, the conversation was moving at about the rate it does now, but gaining speed every day. In the real world, I was presiding over a weekly Swing Nite and was full of great retro things to post. It didn't hurt that I was a poor college student cloistered in a small dorm room with only music and Internet access for entertainment. It's been great to watch how things have changed and see so many interesting people come and go. TMBC and Smilin' Buddha Joe did a heck of a job running this town. Thanks so much! |

Re: Roll Call Before We Play Taps! I miss this place. I've hardly checked in, mostly as a firewall at work keeps me out.
