Another fun retro flick

I just re-watched Radioland Murders and i have got to say that I rather enjoyed this film. It's one of George Lucas' least known works, and stars Brian Benben and Mary Stuart Masterson. It is a story set in the heyday of radio, and is just a wonderful retro flick. Everyone and their grandmother makes a cameo. Great sets, great clothes, and a killer soundtrack make this one to rent. Check it out!

Re: Another fun retro flick

Here's another...last night I saw Man of the Century. What fun!!!!

Some of the supporting cast? Bobby Short and Gary Beach (he now of The Producers fame: Roger Bart, on stage).

It's a hoot; a dapper young man from the 20's living in 1990's New York. Complete with harridan of a mother from the Edwardian era, 90's modern girlfriend who can't understand why a kiss on the cheek in public makes him spit champagne all over his tuxedo...and partner Charleston.

SEE IT, it's wonderful!!!! (Great score, too. For instance: The Mills Brothers singing Inka Dinka Doo!)

And our pal Dean Mora was an adviser in the film's production. Check the credits!

I saw that! (You should have heard me whoop! And then try to explain the excitement to my not-in-the-scene friend  lol ).

Re: Another fun retro flick

And yet another fun one that I just saw - The Rocketeer.  Great 1930s serial adventure style movie that takes place in Hollywood, complete with flyboys, Nazis, G-men, and of course, a PG-rated romance.

Re: Another fun retro flick

                     Oooh, thanks for the suggestions!

I have quite a list of vintage movies I am trying to see, but unfortunately most of the rental places DON'T CARRY THEM!!  (Horrors!)  I rent what I can, and I am planning to buy many of them (e-bay).  I will take a look and see if I can find the 3 movies listed above.  I forgot all about the Rocketeer.  I wanted to see that.

Other decent era movies, I think, were October Sky and Forever Young.  (Forever Young still makes me cry.)

If you can't find good flicks at the local rental place, try Netflix.com. An unbelievable selection and an incredible service!

                     I loved October Sky!

Nyssa, you should check out your public libraries; often they have a good selection of old movies & newer releases that were not as commercially successful as the ones still at Blockbuster.  And best of all, you can "rent" them for free!

Great idea, Susie!  Thanks!  I do borrow CDs from them, but never thought about movies.

Re: Another fun retro flick

for a fun but awful retro flick try streets of fire with diane lane and michael pare. lots of slick 50's style clothes and pretty decent soundtrack, and an appearance by the Blasters. if you can stand sittin through a lousy plot and bad acting, its worth it
