Lisa Stansfield - Swing!
Written by Joe Wood

Lisa Stansfield - Swing! Here's the movie pitch. "There's this ex-con who hooks up with the wife of the cop who arrests him. Then these four bad guys chase them around a dance floor while a heavy metal drummer watches and they all start a band together." That's the basic premise to the new motion picture Swing!. What? Yeah I know, Hollywood has missed the point again, á la Blast from the Past. Maybe they should stick to remakes of movies.  I'm sure Frankie Manning would be able to be a consultant to the re-make of Hellzapoppin'. The soundtrack for the movie Swing! is to be released on July 13th on RCA/Victor, with songs sung by Lisa Stansfield & George Fame. I can't imagine this album getting much top 40 airplay either.

What I can say is that the lamer Swing Dance Societies who consider Elvis to be swing will love this CD and it's renditions of "Baby, I Need Your Lovin", "The Best Is Yet to Come", "Ain't What You Do", which all sound like they were produced by Barry Manilow on a bad day.  Lisa has found a way to destroy Louis Jordan's "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" and she sloths her way through "Our Love Is Here To Stay". Boy, would George Gershwin be pissed!  I've also heard bad wedding bands do better renditions of "Mack the Knife".  But the truly laughable song on the CD is George Fame singing "What You Liked About Me" which sounds like it is be being performed by Kermit the Frog for Sesame Street.  Lisa, stick to disco.  Edie Gormet is schmaltzie enough.
