The Rat Pack - Boys Night Out
Written by Will "the Thrill" Viharo

The Rat Pack, Boys Night OutIt's official—Bogey never saw this coming, but The Rat Pack is a now and forever a recording group. A band, like the Beatles or the Stones or Led Zeppelin or Nirvana. Except they had more Italian, Black and Jewish members, which made them relatively progressive.

They never actually put out any albums together during their JFK/Vegas hey-hey-heyday, but via the magic of creative compilation, we can fix that. This latest collection of the boys swapping numbers (like their stage act, sans the often painful banter) is smart enough to include some of their lesser-exposed numbers, like Frank doing the title tune and his snappy version of "Ol' Macdonald" (you'd be surprised), Dino getting ethnic with "Grazie, Prego, Scusi" and Sammy giving the Chairman what-for with his own take on "The Tender Trap".

You also get Frank and Dean's duet on the Broadway anthem "Guys and Dolls" and all three chiming in on "We Open in Venice". All in all, a solid addition to any Rat Pack completist's library, and another great introduction for the uninitiated who still think Soderbergh's Mickey Mouse Club is the real Ocean's 11. Or 12. Just give me the original 3, and make it a double, on the rocks.
