The Lost Patrol - Dark Matter
Written by Will "the Thrill" Viharo

Dark MatterNew Jersey's (yo!) indie heroes The Lost Patrol can only be considered a "retro" band in that they boldly and artfully implement "old-fashioned," seemingly long-lost musical qualities such as rich melodies and lush instrumentation, echoing previous eras—ranging from the Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood folk-pop of the '60s to the Chrissie Hynde/Pretenders new wave rock of the 80s—without sacrificing their own unique identity as a vital rock-noir band of the 21st Century.

Moody, moving images of yearning, star-crossed, fate-challenged lovers taking a moonlight drive through a timeless, David Lynchian landscape dance provocatively in the listener's mind as ethereal yet earthy vocalist Mollie Israel passionately interprets such original poems of joy and pain as "Calling Your Own Name," "Nobody There," "Lay in Wait," and "Ever After." She is comfortable with any tempo, communicating soulfully sonic reveries with charismatic conviction. Stephen Masucci (guitar, bass, omnichord) and Michael Williams (acoustic guitar) skillfully envelop the voluptuous vocals in a multi-layered yet perfectly woven blanket of soothing sound. Plainly put, this is darkly romantic music for darkly romantic dreamers.
