Royal Crown Revue - Don't Be A Grinch This Year!
Written by Joe Wood

Don't Be A Grinch This Year! It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas with Royal Crown Revue. In their latest release Don't Be A Grinch This Year!, Eddie Nichols, Mondo Dorame and Mark Cally have arranged another swingin', danceable, and joyful CD which this time captures the spirit of the season in their neo-swing style.

Don't Be A Grinch... features twelve songs including five RCR originals—title track "Don't Be A Grinch This Year", "Christmas Lights", "Take It Back (I Don't Want It)", "Merry Christmas To All", and an updated version of their 1992 holiday hit, "Hey Santa" which features the debut of Jennifer Keith to the band. What's Christmas without friends? Also joining the band on this CD are feature guests spots by trumpeter Mark Pender (The Conan O'Brian Show/Conan) and trombonist Robbie Hioki (Brian Setzer Orchestra). Additionally, vibraphonist Nick Mancini guests on "Christmas Lights" and on the holiday standard, "White Christmas". Doo-Wop/R&B vocalist Vicky Tafoya pops in and takes command of a great rendition of the classic "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus".

As mentioned above, the addition of Jennifer Keith's beautiful voice gives a broader spectrum to the band. She shines in duets with Eddie on the classics "White Christmas", "Cool Yule", "Baby, It's Cold Outside", the airy "Christmas Lights" and the reconstituted "Hey Santa". As usual, Eddie handles his own vocals with his customary ease.
